Here’s a simple add-on to your bench press to add speed, power and hopefully gains to your training.
Why add resistance to the bench?
Due to the nature of bench press, the further your weight gets away from your chest, the easier the movement is. Adding resistance to the bench press means that it uses more power to accelerate through the bottom of movement and it makes it harder to get the weight up and keep it up to lock out at the top. Stroops Slastix resistance bands are a perfect tool to add to this training because you can easily add on fractional amount of weighted resistance to fine tune the amount of challenge you need. They’re also an inexpensive add-on to your gear as well as being a cinch to store, and versatile for other types of training.
How-To & Setup
Take a 36” Slastix and connect the two clip ends together to make a loop around your bar and a heavy enough dumbbell to weigh down your band. Set up for your bench press like normal, making sure to accelerate at the top to finish strong and lock out at the top.
Using Slastix resistance bands in your bench press training allows to users to challenge their speed and power while bench pressing, as well as providing a flexible way to add on additional weight or resistance.
