Considerations for How to Choose your Resistance
Many regular “naked” resistance bands don’t come with weight equivalents for your strength training regime, forcing you to “double up” or add an extra band to get a more challenging workout. Stroops resistance bands are specifically set up to have an equivalent weight, making choosing your resistance similar to choosing the weight you would use for any kind of strength training exercise.
Due to this, the answer for “how to choose your resistance” for a particular exercise depends! Let’s talk about all the considerations you need to take into account when you’re preparing to choose a resistance band to get the best workout.
CHOOSING RESISTANCE IS MOVEMENT SPECIFIC
The type of movement you do will affect what weight of resistance band you’re after. Are you doing a chest press or shoulder mobility? Are you running or jumping with a Son of the Beast? Make sure to choose a band that will provide the right amount of resistance for the exercise you’re doing, and know that it may always be different!
PERSON SPECIFIC
Different fitness abilities and strengths will automatically require different resistance bands. For max effectiveness, make sure to tailor to your workout to your individual level, instead of struggling along with a weight that’s too heavy or coasting along with one that’s too light. You can always grab a heavier or lighter band to make sure you’re getting the right challenge for your fitness level, and have options to switch to.
WHAT PRODUCT WILL YOU BE USING?
Not all resistance bands are created the same! In many ways, the product will determine the kinds of training you can do, including what weight you’ll require. Slastix range from 10 pounds of resistance to 30, while the Son of the Beast ranges from 47 to 150 pounds. In addition, Slastix have clip ends, perfect for different kinds of anchoring and attachment options, while you’re likely to use a belt or the handles for the Son of the Beast. These are specialized tools for specific kinds of training, and the weights differ as well.
HAVE OPTIONS
Resistance bands give you the opportunity to do resisted strength training in an extremely compact, mobile and flexible way. Using Stroops resistance bands allows you to choose the specific kind of band you need, depending on your fitness level, the kind of exercise, or movement. We hope these rules of thumb help you choose the right band to get the workout you’re after!

What length of band should I order to do your pilates 30 minute routine? I have a 72″ band in the cart. Should I order a shorter one?
Thank you,
Cathy
Hi, Cathy,
A pair of 36″ Slastix resistance bands is best for our 30-minute pilates routine by our trainer Danielle. A 72″ band works perfectly as long as your anchor point allows you to loop the entire band around it so that you can use both ends of the band simultaneously. Happy training!
