Truth about working out, no one is motivated ALL the time. Does that mean every time we aren’t motivated we don’t go to the gym, no. Some days all you have to do is force yourself to get up and go, whether you want to or not.
Yes, sometimes it seems if you don’t have a desire to go to the gym every minute of the day then you’re failing, but every person goes through a non desire to go to the gym. It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person or you are slumping off; we all have off days.
How do you stay motivated? Especially on those days when you’re dragging and all you can think about is sitting on the couch with a bag of potato chips? The worst things is knowing you’re going to feel good after working out, but you just cannot get off the couch. I’ve written before about the importance of rest days, and if you feel completely exhausted, then maybe all you need is a day of rest. You shouldn’t beat yourself up for taking a day off to recover. But when one day turns into four, then it’s time to get yourself back up and going.
Maybe the first step is to find something you find fun. Don’t get stuck in a slump of running on the treadmill or lifting weights just because your friends do it. Neither of those may be your thing, so experiment with a few different ideas like rock climbing, boxing, or yoga and see what makes you excited to get up and moving again.

Also, be sure to set a goal for yourself. You can always start small, if you’re just getting back into working out maybe settle for working out 3 days a week, and increasing the amount from there. Especially if you have been inconsistent you just need to get back in a routine. Just try making a goal you know you can keep. Set yourself up for success; always be sure to create a goal you can keep.
If you still find just getting up and going to the gym seems hard, try joining a studio or signing up for classes. Anyone can admit a gym can sometimes be intimidating, especially if you are just getting back into fitness, so find a niche studio. You’ll meet like-minded people that will encourage you to go to class and stay on track with a healthy lifestyle.
Finally, try giving yourself some advice to keep yourself on track. We all have bad weeks, and sometimes it’s hard to get out of your slump. But if you had a friend tell you they needed help to get motivated, how would you handle it? What would you say to a someone who needed your help and advice? Think about that and rely it to your own situation. It sounds dumb, but you can be your own greatest motivator. Only you really knows where you came from, so think back on your journey and remember why it is that you started this and look at how far you’ve come. Then give yourself some advice to keep going.
